Tennis Elbow Physiotherapy
Tennis elbow commonly presents as discomfort on the outer side of the elbow, and is often aggravated by lifting, twisting, or repeated hand use. In some cases, grip feels weaker, and symptoms become more noticeable during tasks such as wringing a towel, turning a handle, or lifting everyday objects.
If your symptoms are mainly on the inner side of the elbow and are more noticeable during gripping or wrist flexion, you may also refer to [Golfer’s Elbow Physiotherapy].
Common symptoms
- Pain on the outer side of the elbow
- More noticeable during lifting
- Discomfort when twisting the wrist or turning objects
- Reduced grip strength or pain during gripping
- More easily aggravated after repeated hand use
How physiotherapy assesses
Physiotherapy usually begins by looking at whether the discomfort is mainly on the outer side of the elbow, which movements provoke it most, and how it responds to lifting, twisting, or repeated hand use. Where appropriate, forearm and wrist loading, grip, and related hand activities may also be reviewed to determine whether the pattern is more consistent with tennis elbow.
How physiotherapy may help
Physiotherapy may include activity modification, appropriate forearm and wrist-related exercises, loading advice, and graded rehabilitation according to symptom location, hand use demands, and everyday loading. The aim is to improve outer elbow discomfort and restore tolerance for daily use progressively.
